Discover Hidden Paths in Your Design Career!

Are you feeling trapped in your graphic design role?

1. The Graphic Design Journey

The journey into the creative scene often starts with graphic design. You might begin as an intern, learning the ropes and getting your feet wet, or as a freelance artist who’s turned a passion project into a gig. You could then move onto an entry-level junior designer role, and with enough perseverance and skill, rise to the position of a 'graphic designer' or even a Senior Designer. But who's to say that's where you stop?

2. Exploring New Creative Roles

Think beyond the canvas. Roles like Art Director, Principal Designer, Creative Director, Concept Artist, or Design Manager, to name a few, offer you a chance to apply your creativity in unique and challenging ways. And yeah, the pay tends to be better, but the real win? They let you show off your unique creative abilities and carve out a career that's not just rewarding, but also pretty satisfying.

3. Personal Journey

2.5 years ago, I was a designer strictly focused on refining my technical abilities. Then, after a few months of exploring it hit me. There were so many other roles I could be excelling at. The seed was planted, and a passion was ignited.

I began to play around with these roles, experiment a bit, and found myself falling into a groove. Like a puzzle piece finally snapping into place, it felt...right. Building decks, understanding stories, creating campaign launches, how it then flows into the year.

I asked myself, have I been wasting time before this? I don't thinkkkk so. But they say each step was part of the journey.

This adventurous path, packed with challenges and rewards, amplified my career and, let's not forget, boosted my earnings. Armed with a broadened perspective and expanded skillset, I now have leverage in job interviews and increased odds for roles that offer three to four times the salary of a standard design role. The satisfaction and growth? Priceless.

And I really mean that.

4. Leveraging Your Skills

I get it, diving into new roles can feel overwhelming. But the truth is, you've got this. Designers inherently wear many hats - you're a marketer, a trendsetter, a researcher, and so much more. These are all skills you can leverage when transitioning into a different role in the creative industry. Think of it like this, you start with graphic design but that's just the foundation for a bunch of other dope career paths.

5. Embracing the Possibilities

So why do some designers stick to what they know? Often, it's because they're tunnel-visioned on perfecting their technical design skills. They overlook their inherent skills, which could be leveraged in different roles. Remember, the best designers aren't just masters of textures, fonts, or lighting. They're also skilled marketers, researchers, theory crafters, and more. By focusing solely on design, they limit their own growth.

So don't be afraid to explore new territories.
